Two-dimensional NMR has become an important tool for chemists in determining the structure of organic compounds. Used in conjunction with other spectroscopic techniques, two-dimensional NMR provides highly reliable analyses. Although this website does not contain a comprehensive exploration of the subject (it is far too complex), it does give the viewer a basic understanding of the technique. Topics covered include: a review of conventional NMR, a brief introduction to the theory of 2D NMR, types of spectra, and basic interpretation of a 2D COSY spectrum.
This site is intended primarily for students majoring in the sciences who have been introduced to or have experience with conventional (1D) NMR, but all are welcome to browse through the pages. For those desiring a more detailed look at 2D NMR, be sure to check out the "More on NMR" button located on the navigation bar to theleft. There you will find links to sites related to NMR, 2D NMR, spectroscopy, and spectra.
